The three main candidates in Alex

Hunter understands that the following people have been picked for the Alexandra Ward by-election:

Joanna Christophides - Labour - local resident

David Douglas - Conservative - local resident

Nigel Scott - Lib Dem - Woodside resident

Does anyone know if there's going to be other parties contesting this by?

The greens said they would in the Hornsey Journal. A Labour friend of mine said they expect the BNP to - they have a new policy of contesting every by-election, even the one in ultra Jewish Hampstead on the 25th. If they do it'll be the first BNP candidacy in Haringey history (although the NF used to be big in Tottenham).

The BNP and the Lib Dems are the only parties leafleting so far. Meanwhile Haringey Council have chosen to put the election on Yom Kippur which can only help the BNP.

BNP? Gosh! We've delivered the entire ward at least once.

Justin is right. I got the Conservative one today - it talks about how brilliant a Councillor Susal Oatway is. I don't know any councillors by that name. I know a Susan Oatway but she's a Lib Dem. The Lib Dems have sent me six different leaflets all saying very novel unexpected things like "the Conservatives can't win here". And the BNP have done a really really nice colourful pamphlet. They probably are to odious to vote for but if I was judging the contest on aesthetics then I would have to...

The Greens have selected someone called James Patterson.

So are we going to expect the tories to come in 3rd or 4th place this time?

You've got no chance really, im expecting Labour to come a close second and we Liberals to get a nice result.

Cllr Nigel Scott, has a rather nice ring to it.
